I am a common man. I don't know how Indian Economy works and whether
this #Demonetization will
bring back the much talked about black money. I have my friends in corporate
world who are trying to convince me that this step of the govt. was very much
needed to curb the black money. I went in public to find out as to how this step
of the govt. has impacted their day to day life and here is my observation for
you to analysis:
1- HSR Layout of the Bangalore city is famous for many things. One of them
is yummy road side eateries. The Food Lane next to the BDA Complex in HSR is
always filled to its capacity with Momos, Dosa and Vada-Pava lovers. You will
have to wait for good half an hour for your turn on weekends on these small
Rehdis/Thelas. But to my surprise or rather shock, when I went to this place
yesterday it was completely empty. I approached a vendor inquiring for the
reason and was told that "All thanks to the #Demonetization. For last
couple of days this is the situation." I could easily feel the pain inside
him. They are daily wagers running in loss.
Out of curiosity I roamed around to find out more and what I observed
was Sabzi Wale waiting for buyers, small tea sellers looking at their tea
kettles as if they are cursing it for not bringing in the customers. The list
goes on and on.
2- I usually prefer the small road side vendors for daily grocery
shopping. However, this time I was kind of forced to head towards some giant
mall since I was also running out of cash and they allow to use your
credit/debit cards. To my surprise again the mall was filled to the capacity
and I felt that I was in some kind of Mela. I frequently visit these malls but
have never seen this much crowd. The reason was obvious; to use their
credit/debit cards.
